The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging that ₦4.2 billion was proposed in the 2026 budget for the purchase of office furniture and microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor, describing the claim as a misrepresentation of the approved capital provisions.
In a statement issued on February 27, 2026, by the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning & Budget, the government said the reports stemmed from a clear misunderstanding of the budget breakdown.
According to the ministry, the total capital allocation for the Office of the Deputy Governor in the 2026 fiscal year stands at ₦4,247,816,006. However, it clarified that the entire sum is not designated for furniture and microphones as widely reported.
The government explained that ₦4,077,816,006 of the total capital allocation is earmarked for the reconstruction of the Round House complex — a six-storey facility that accommodates more than 50 offices. The reconstruction project will include structural upgrades, retrofitting works, and the installation of alternative energy infrastructure, among other improvements.
It further stated that the remaining ₦170 million within the capital budget is allocated for the purchase of office equipment, furniture and fittings, as well as other capital items.
To promote transparency, the ministry said screenshots of the relevant budget master sheet have been made available for public review.
Reiterating its commitment to fiscal responsibility, the Lagos State Government noted that all budgetary provisions are guided by due process, fiscal discipline and established accounting standards. It urged stakeholders and media organisations to seek clarification through appropriate channels to ensure accurate reporting.
The government also expressed regret over any misunderstanding arising from the classification of the budget items and reaffirmed its commitment to prudent management of public resources.
