The Lagos State Government on Monday engaged stakeholders of Computer Village, Ikeja, in discussions over plans to relocate the popular market to Katangowa, Agbado-Oke Odo.

Speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Mr. Gbolahan Oki, said the forum was in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive that the process be inclusive and transparent.

“This is the first time in 15 years that government is holding this kind of meeting directly with you in your market. It shows the governor’s commitment to openness,” Oki said.

He explained that work was ongoing at the new ICT and Business Park in Katangowa, which would feature hotels, banks, recreation centres, car parks, a fire station, police post, and good access roads.

According to him, relocating the market would be beneficial to both government and traders, noting that Ikeja’s original plan as a residential area had been overtaken by rapid commercial expansion. He added that Katangowa would provide a more organised and conducive business environment.

Oki also urged traders to support the relocation plan and desist from trading on streets, setbacks, and drainages in Ikeja.

During the meeting, officials from the Urban Development Department gave a presentation highlighting the benefits of the relocation.

The Iyaloja of Computer Village, Chief Abisola Azeez, expressed appreciation to the governor for the initiative, stressing that the new site would enhance the market’s growth and provide better opportunities for traders and customers.

Other officials present included the General Manager, Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, Mr. Oladimeji Animashaun; the Coordinating Director, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mrs. Florence Gbaye; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Segun Williams. Executive members of the market association also attended the meeting.
