The Lagos State Government has ordered contractors working on the rehabilitation of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway to vacate the site from Thursday, December 4, 2025, and resume in January 2026 to allow for smooth traffic flow during the festive season.

The suspended rehabilitation covers the stretch from Admiralty Way Junction to the Jubilee Bridge in Ajah, within the Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the directive on Tuesday during an inspection tour of the corridor. He was accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and representatives of the contractor, CRCC.

Osiyemi said the temporary suspension became necessary to prevent the severe gridlock typically associated with the Yuletide period and to ensure seamless vehicular movement for residents and visitors.

Meanwhile, the State Government has concluded plans to introduce exclusive, government-regulated transportation services on the Lekki–Epe corridor beginning December 8, 2025, under the first phase of the Lekki–Epe Bus Reform Scheme.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced the rollout on Tuesday via its X handle. The scheme will deploy 229 high- and medium-capacity buses across key routes, including Ajah–CMS/Marina, Ajah–Obalende, Ajah–Oshodi, Ajah–Berger, and Ajah–Iyana Ipaja.

One operator will run an express service, while others will provide stage-by-stage stop services to ensure widespread commuter coverage.

All participating buses will carry the standard Lagos blue-and-white colours, QR-enabled PTCS verification stickers, unique identification codes, and Touch and Pay (TAP) stickers to enable seamless electronic transactions.

LAMATA noted that the first phase of the regulated bus operations—developed in partnership with informal transport operators—will eventually be extended to Epe.

According to the agency, the initiative is designed to enhance safety, comfort, and operational discipline along the busy corridor, offering commuters a more predictable and secure public transport experience.
