The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man accused of brutally assaulting his wife just four days after she gave birth to their child.
The incident came to public attention after actress Omosalewa Fafowora shared a video online showing police officers at the couple’s residence as they took the suspect into custody. In the video, an officer stated that the victim was in the hospital and on oxygen support. An elderly woman, believed to be the victim’s mother, was seen holding the newborn baby.
Fafowora alleged that the man beat his wife in the presence of her mother, causing the new mother to lose consciousness. She was subsequently rushed to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed the arrest of the suspect and assured the public that the matter is under investigation.
