The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement across Lagos State from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, as part of security measures for the forthcoming Lagos Local Government Elections.
According to the Command, the restriction will apply to all roads and waterways under Lagos State’s jurisdiction.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Command emphasized that the movement ban will be strictly enforced to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Key highlights of the directive include:
- Prohibition of Armed Escorts and Security Details: No armed security escorts or private security personnel will be allowed during the period.
- Ban on Sirens and Covered Number Plates: The use of sirens and vehicles with covered number plates is strictly prohibited.
- Exclusion of Quasi-Security Agencies: All vehicles belonging to any quasi-security outfits or state security agencies are barred from participation in election security operations, in accordance with the Electoral Act.
- Exemptions: Only those offering essential services such as medical emergency workers, accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), election observers, and accredited media personnel will be permitted to move—provided they carry LASIEC-certified identification tags.
- Security Presence: The Police have warned all miscreants, hoodlums, and political thugs to stay away from polling units, collation centers, and other official electoral locations, warning of severe consequences for violations.
