The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle during a live stream.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, reportedly resulted in a serious road accident that endangered the life of the suspect and other road users. According to the police, the act constituted a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and posed a grave threat to public safety.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). She noted that the outcome of the investigation would be made public, after which the suspect would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, used the occasion to issue a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators, and members of the public against using online platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful acts.
He stressed that such actions, which could lead to loss of life or breach of public peace, would not be tolerated, adding that offenders would face the full weight of the law. The Command also urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining peace across the state.
