The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.
The directive follows mounting public outrage over allegations that went viral on social media in recent days. The pastor stepped aside from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day as more women came forward with accusations, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala.
Last Sunday, Okafor publicly apologised to Ogala during a church service, kneeling on the pulpit as he admitted to past “mistakes” and asked for forgiveness. The controversy comes shortly after his wedding to a new bride, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025, an event reportedly attended by prominent clerics.
Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command had said it could not arrest the cleric because no formal petition had been submitted by any of the alleged victims. The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, initially stated that the police were not aware of any official complaints against Okafor despite the allegations circulating online.
However, following renewed enquiries, Adebisi confirmed on Sunday that the commissioner had directed the SCID to invite the pastor for questioning and summon the alleged victims for interviews.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” she said, adding that witnesses would also be invited to give statements to aid the probe.
Adebisi further disclosed that she had independently contacted a YouTuber who interviewed some of the alleged victims to obtain links to the witnesses.
The allegations first gained traction on December 14, when Ogala posted emotional videos on Instagram accusing the pastor of a sexual relationship that allegedly began in 2017 and lasted nine years. She claimed Okafor repeatedly promised to marry her before marrying another woman in December 2025.
Ogala also accused the cleric of sharing her explicit photos and videos, contributing to the collapse of her previous marriage, and causing her emotional and financial distress. She shared screenshots, bedroom photos and videos, alleging that the pastor offered her $10,000 to withdraw her claims and accuse a rival pastor of orchestrating the scandal.
Through her lawyers, Ogala later demanded N1bn in damages, alleging threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention by the police.
As the controversy deepened, other women, including Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also accused him of sexual misconduct, infidelity, deception and physical assault.
However, some members of the church have dismissed the allegations, describing them as attempts by disgruntled individuals to extort money from their pastor.
