The Lagos State Police Command has reaffirmed the importance of stop-and-search operations as a proactive crime-prevention strategy, following the recovery of an illegal firearm during a routine patrol in the state.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, @LagosPoliceNG, on Friday, the Command disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Crime Unit attached to the Ishashi Division recovered a locally made, cut-to-size double-barrel firearm loaded with two cartridges.
According to the statement, the recovery was made at about 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday during a patrol and stop-and-search operation within the Ishashi Division’s area of responsibility. The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.
The Command stressed that preventive policing measures such as stop-and-search operations remain vital in disrupting criminal activities and strengthening security across Lagos State.
It further assured residents that sustained patrols and intelligence-led operations would continue to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
