The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from all traffic control and enforcement activities across the state.
The directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, is aimed at improving professionalism, accountability, and efficiency in traffic management operations.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the decision is part of ongoing efforts to streamline responsibilities among relevant agencies. She clarified that while the Taskforce has been relieved of traffic-related duties, its other operational functions remain unaffected.
The command also cautioned residents against assuming that all taskforce personnel involved in traffic enforcement belong to the disbanded unit, noting that multiple taskforces operate within Lagos State.
Motorists and residents were advised to verify the identity of enforcement personnel before making complaints or allegations related to traffic activities.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, urging the public to remain compliant with traffic regulations and cooperate with authorized agencies carrying out their duties.
