Residents of Ishaga Close, Safejo, Amukoko, Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Alaba Oro and surrounding communities in Lagos have appealed to the state government for urgent intervention as severe flooding continues to threaten lives and destroy properties.
The affected residents accused authorities of neglecting drainage channels and abandoning road projects in the area, especially around Ishaga Close. They also alleged that some hotels, churches and other structures built on drainage right-of-way escaped demolition through bribery, worsening the flooding situation.
Many residents said homes, schools and roads are now submerged after every rainfall, forcing some families to relocate while others seek refuge on higher ground. Some victims disclosed that household items and appliances have been destroyed, while several residents now move around in rain boots due to the persistent floodwater.
Community members further lamented poor sanitation, blocked canals and contaminated boreholes caused by floodwater mixed with waste from nearby drains and landfill materials.
They called on the Lagos State Government and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgently clear the canals, enforce environmental laws and address illegal structures obstructing water channels before the rainy season worsens the crisis.
