The Lagos State Government has summoned electricity distribution companies (DisCos), regulators, power resellers and suppliers over persistent blackouts across the state, as it moves to develop a roadmap for uninterrupted electricity supply.

The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, disclosed this on Thursday during a briefing ahead of the 2026 Lagos Energy Summit scheduled for November 10 to 12.

He said the government would use the summit to bring key players in the electricity sector together to identify challenges affecting power generation, distribution, metering and alternative energy supply, while developing practical solutions to improve electricity delivery.

According to Ogunleye, discussions will centre on electricity sector reforms, energy efficiency, renewable energy, metering solutions and alternative sources of power.

The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasumu, said the summit would depart from the conventional approach of policy speeches and presentations by focusing on concrete problems and actionable solutions.

“This summit is going to be different from the last one. It is not just going to be a talk shop. We are going to bring real problems to the table and look for solutions from different experts in this sector,” she said.

Kasumu added that the government was seeking practical pathways to achieving reliable, round-the-clock electricity supply in Lagos, with the ambition of developing a model that could be replicated in other parts of the country.

Ogunleye also revealed that discussions were ongoing with the Federal Government to clarify regulatory responsibilities and strengthen Lagos State’s control over its energy infrastructure.

He identified compressed natural gas and electric vehicles as key elements of the state’s clean-energy and transportation agenda.

The three-day summit, themed “Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future,” will also showcase clean-energy innovations by young people, including projects and prototypes developed by secondary school students.

It is expected to attract government officials, private investors, energy experts, academics and innovators to explore investment opportunities and sustainable solutions to Lagos’ electricity challenges.
