The Lagos State Taskforce has launched a specialized Anti-Crime Patrol Unit aimed at tackling criminal activities and enforcing environmental laws across the state.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, at the Taskforce Headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi. He explained that the initiative was introduced to address rising security concerns and eliminate criminal elements threatening residents and visitors.
According to Akerele, the unit will operate as a rapid-response team, targeting offences such as drug trafficking, street hooliganism, activities of “area boys” (also known as “Omotaku”), raids on criminal hideouts, environmental violations, assaults on government officials, quack practices, and “one-chance” robbery syndicates, among other crimes.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to restoring order, noting that surveillance, patrols, and enforcement operations would be intensified across key hotspots in the state.
“We are fully committed to eradicating criminal activities in Lagos. Criminals will have no hiding place, and decisive actions will be taken to ensure compliance with the law,” he stated.
The Taskforce also called on residents to support security efforts by providing timely and reliable information to authorities.
The newly established unit will operate round-the-clock, focusing on preventing and responding swiftly to criminal threats before they escalate.
This development follows a recent directive by the Lagos State Police Command withdrawing Taskforce officers from traffic enforcement duties, allowing the agency to concentrate more on security and environmental enforcement.
