The Lagos Waste Management Authority has urged residents to comply with the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the agency said the exercise will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. across the state.
The authority noted that the two-hour period is meant for residents to clean their surroundings and ensure proper waste disposal.
It emphasised that maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility, encouraging residents to actively participate and support efforts aimed at keeping Lagos safe and hygienic.
The state government had earlier announced the resumption of the exercise in March, marking its return nearly a decade after it was suspended.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that the sanitation exercise will now hold on the last Saturday of every month within the same time frame.
The initiative was previously conducted between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. before it was suspended in November 2016 following a court ruling that restricted movement during the exercise.
Since the announcement of its return, some residents have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that it will help reduce indiscriminate waste disposal, curb flooding, and improve overall cleanliness.
Others, however, have raised concerns about enforcement, warning that movement restrictions could be abused by officials. They also stressed the need for sustained public education on proper waste management alongside the monthly exercise.
