The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has restated its ban on night-time movement on inland waterways, cautioning fans heading to Ilashe Beach for a concert on Sunday, January 11, 2026, to strictly observe safety rules.
The advisory follows a scheduled performance by renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika, at the beach.
In a statement on Sunday, LASWA General Manager, Damilola Emmanuel, reminded members of the public and boat operators that night journeys on Lagos waterways remain prohibited.
She stressed that all commercial and private boat operations are limited to daylight hours to ensure the safety of passengers and operators.
According to Emmanuel, the ban remains in force due to risks such as poor visibility and navigational hazards, noting that the measures are aimed at protecting lives and property.
LASWA advised fun seekers to plan ahead, arrive at their destinations early and avoid travelling by water after sunset.
The agency also directed boat operators to comply strictly with approved operating hours, observe all safety protocols and ensure passengers wear life jackets at all times.
Emmanuel disclosed that LASWA, in collaboration with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and other security agencies, would intensify patrols across the waterways, warning that violators would be sanctioned.
She reaffirmed LASWA’s commitment to safe, efficient and well-regulated water transportation, adding that safety on the waterways is a shared responsibility.
