Lagos residents have been assured that the heaps of refuse seen on roads across the state will soon be cleared, as the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) says it has created additional disposal capacity to tackle the waste backlog.
Speaking during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Road E and newly constructed disposal platforms at the Olusosun Disposal Facility in Ojota, LAWMA Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the project was a strategic intervention to improve waste evacuation and ease operational bottlenecks.
According to him, the additional disposal space will enable the agency to clear accumulated waste on roads within the next few days as it gradually winds down activities at the Olusosun dumpsite.
Gbadegesin, however, stressed that keeping Lagos clean requires the cooperation of residents, urging them to dispose of waste through their designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators, pay for collection services promptly, and avoid indiscriminate dumping. He also advised residents experiencing delays in waste collection to report directly to LAWMA for prompt intervention.
