A 43-year-old man, Musibau Idris, on Monday appeared before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over allegations of reckless driving that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
Idris is facing a two-count charge before Chief Magistrate B.A. Sonuga for reckless driving on the highway and causing death. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Prosecutor ASP Aminu Isaac told the court that the offence occurred on November 16 at about 8:30 a.m. along Sagamu Road by Power Line Junction in Sabo, Ikorodu. He alleged that Idris, while driving a Volkswagen Vanagon bus with registration number EPE 494 XM, operated the vehicle carelessly without regard for other road users, leading to the death of Mrs. Tawakalitu Uthman.
The prosecutor said the offences violate Sections 50(1) and 52 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law and Regulations of 2018.
The court granted Idris bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like amount and adjourned the case until January 22, 2026.
