The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal herbal product manufacturing facility in Agege, Lagos State, following reports of herbal products bearing falsified registration numbers.

The discovery followed an investigation triggered by a report published by The Guardian on October 10, 2026, concerning herbal products allegedly carrying fake NAFDAC registration details.

According to the agency, its investigative team conducted surveillance in response to the report and subsequently discovered three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters bearing NAFDAC Registration Number A7-1827L.

Verification through NAFDAC’s National Automated Product Administration and Monitoring System (NAPAMS) portal revealed that the registration number actually belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup.

The finding confirmed that the registration number had been fraudulently used on the herbal products, raising concerns about the legality and regulatory compliance of their manufacture and sale.

During the operation, the facility’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer was absent, while the company manager was arrested for further interrogation as investigations continued.

NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to combating the production and distribution of unregistered and falsely labelled products, warning that such practices could undermine public confidence in regulated products and expose consumers to potential health risks.

The agency urged members of the public to provide credible information about suspected illegal manufacturing activities to support its enforcement efforts.

Reports can be made through the NAFDAC Call Centre on 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322, or by email at reforms@nafdac.gov.ng.
