Operatives of the (NDLEA) have recorded a series of major drug interdictions across Nigeria, including the arrest of a China-based Nigerian businessman and two Angolan nationals who collectively excreted 236 wraps of cocaine at airports in Abuja and Kano.
The Nigerian suspect, Ibeanu Vincent Chukwudulue, 34, was arrested on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, while travelling on a Qatar Airways flight from Kano to China via Abuja and Doha. NDLEA officers at the acted on intelligence reports and subjected him to a body scan, which confirmed he had ingested illicit drugs. He later excreted 52 pellets of cocaine weighing 735.95 grams. Ibeanu told investigators he relocated to Guangzhou, China, in 2024 after running a business on Lagos Island.
On the same day, two Angolan nationals—Mbandu Martins Makiadi, 50, and Ngoma Wilson Fernando, 52—were intercepted at the while preparing to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Istanbul via Addis Ababa. Both tested positive for ingesting drugs and were placed under observation. Mbandu excreted 76 wraps of cocaine weighing 920 grams, while Ngoma expelled 108 pellets weighing 1.33 kilograms. The suspects said they were promised $3,000 each by a Luanda-based automobile spare parts dealer for delivering the drugs to Turkey.
In another operation, NDLEA operatives at the foiled an attempt by a convicted drug trafficker, Olashupo Michael Oladimeji, to export 1.10 kilograms of cocaine to London. Oladimeji, currently serving a five-year sentence at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, allegedly coordinated the shipment from prison using his logistics company. A company staff member who presented the consignment—concealed in processed cassava granules—was arrested.
Similarly, NDLEA officers frustrated another attempt to export 1.70 kilograms of skunk concealed in jerry cans to the United Kingdom. The alleged mastermind, an estate surveyor, Adelaja Taiwo Adetayo, was later arrested in Lagos following a tracking operation.
In Abuja, officers intercepted a package containing a children’s toy guitar concealing Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis. The owner of the consignment was arrested at Life Camp in the Federal Capital Territory.
In Lagos, NDLEA dismantled a synthetic cannabis production facility in Lekki, where officers recovered quantities of Colorado, precursor chemicals, and arrested suspects linked to the operation. Additional seizures were recorded in Oyo, Kwara, and Edo states, including tramadol pills, methamphetamine, skunk, and large cash exhibits.
Across the country, the agency also sustained its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns in schools and communities.
Commending officers involved in the operations, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, , urged personnel nationwide to maintain a balanced approach to drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
