The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced that Lagos and several southern states will experience cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms from Friday to Sunday, while northern parts of the country brace for widespread dust haze and reduced visibility.
In its three-day weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja, NiMet said the southern region — including Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom — will see cloudiness, morning showers and afternoon thunderstorms across the forecast period.
Friday Forecast
NiMet predicts a cloudy atmosphere over the South on Friday morning, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain in Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
In the northern region, moderate dust haze with visibility of 2–5km is expected over Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara and Kebbi, while a slight dust haze will blanket Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa.
For the central states, moderate dust haze is anticipated over Niger and the FCT, with sunny skies and patches of cloud expected in Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi and Kwara.
Saturday Forecast
NiMet projects sunny skies and hazy conditions across the northern region, while slight dust haze is expected in parts of Niger State. Other central states will experience sunny conditions with few clouds.
The southern region will remain cloudy in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day over Delta, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
Sunday Forecast
Lagos and states across the southern region will see cloudy conditions in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall expected later in the day in Lagos, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers.
Across the central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected, while the North will remain under sunny and hazy conditions.
Public Advisory
NiMet urged motorists to exercise caution during rain and warned that dust particles remain suspended over the northern region, posing a risk for people with asthma and respiratory conditions.
The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather updates for flight planning and encouraged residents to stay informed through NiMet’s continuous weather advisories.
