The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a three-day spell of dust haze across the country from Wednesday through Friday.
According to the agency, moderate dust haze is expected over northern Nigeria on Wednesday, with horizontal visibility ranging between two and five kilometres. In some areas of Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa states, visibility may drop to 1,000 metres or less during the period.
The North-Central region is also expected to experience moderate dust haze throughout the forecast window.
In the southern part of the country, residents should expect mostly sunny skies with patches of clouds. However, there are slight chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall in parts of Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.
By Thursday, moderate dust haze is projected to persist across the northern and North-Central regions. Southern areas may continue to experience sunny conditions with isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall later in the day, particularly in Ondo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Edo states.
On Friday, slight dust haze is expected in the northern region, while the North-Central zone will continue to experience moderate dust conditions. Southern states, including Lagos, Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa, may see a mix of sunshine, cloud cover, and isolated rainfall.
NiMet warned that dust particles will remain suspended in the atmosphere and advised the public to take necessary precautions. Individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma are urged to be especially careful.
Motorists are also advised to drive cautiously during periods of reduced visibility and rainfall, while airline operators are encouraged to obtain location-specific weather reports for safe and efficient planning.
