The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread dust haze and varying cloud conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday, with some areas likely to experience isolated thunderstorms.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze over the northern region on Monday throughout the forecast period. The central region is expected to experience thick dust haze, while moderate dust haze is anticipated over inland cities in the southern region.

According to the agency, coastal areas will witness sunny skies with patches of clouds, with chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Lagos, Bayelsa and Rivers states later in the day.

For Tuesday, NiMet forecast moderate dust haze across the northern and central regions, as well as over inland cities in the southern region. Coastal areas are expected to remain mostly sunny with patches of clouds, while isolated thunderstorms with light rains may occur over parts of Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

By Wednesday, the agency expects thick dust haze to persist over the northern region, with moderate dust haze over the central region and dust haze conditions over inland cities in the south. Coastal cities are forecast to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds throughout the period.

NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere. People with asthma and other respiratory conditions are urged to be cautious. Motorists are also advised to drive carefully during rainfall, while airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated through regular weather information released by the agency.
