Veteran Nollywood actor Davis Ofor, widely known for his iconic role as Clarus in the classic sitcom New Masquerade, has passed away at the age of 85.
His death was announced on Tuesday by fellow actor Tony Akposheri in an emotional Instagram tribute. Akposheri recalled spending time with the late actor during the recent New Year celebrations, describing the moment as filled with laughter, shared memories, and hope for the future.
Expressing his grief, he wrote that Ofor was more than a screen icon, but also a friend and brother whose warmth, humour, and presence left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
Ofor rose to prominence through his unforgettable portrayal of Clarus in New Masquerade, a beloved comedy series that aired on the Nigerian Television Authority in the 1980s and became a staple in many Nigerian homes.
His performance earned him nationwide recognition and secured his place as one of the most memorable figures in Nigeria’s television history.
The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
