Officials of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) have reportedly sealed the offices of fintech company OPay in both Lagos and Abuja over alleged tax violations.
According to enforcement notices placed at the affected premises, the action is linked to alleged non-compliance with Value Added Tax (VAT) and Company Income Tax obligations under the recently enacted Nigeria Tax Act 2025.
The notices stated that the offices would remain closed until authorised clearance is granted by the NRS, indicating that the fintech firm must resolve outstanding tax compliance issues before operations at the locations can resume.
OPay, a widely used digital payment platform in Nigeria for money transfers, bill payments and merchant services, has yet to issue an official statement on the development.
The enforcement move signals stricter implementation of the new tax regime introduced under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, which expands regulatory oversight of companies operating in Nigeria’s digital and financial services sector.
