The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has led tributes following the death of Lagos grassroots leader, Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado.
Faronbi died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the age of 83.
His death was confirmed by his family, while his burial was conducted shortly afterward in accordance with Islamic rites.
In a condolence message, MC Oluomo described Faronbi as a respected figure whose contributions to the NURTW and the wider community would remain part of his legacy.
Faronbi was a prominent figure in Lagos’ transport union circles and was known for his longstanding involvement in NURTW activities.
Beyond the transport sector, he wielded traditional, commercial and political influence in parts of Lagos.
He was the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, and the Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom.
He was also the Babaloja of Aswani International Market, a position that placed him at the centre of trading activities in the area for several years.
His burial was attended by relatives, friends, community members and prominent Lagos personalities, including Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Mushin Local Government Chairman, Tunbosun Aruwe, and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Chairman, Dr Oluseyi Jakande.
Faronbi was also known in Lagos social and entertainment circles and maintained close relationships with prominent Fuji and juju musicians, including K1 De Ultimate, Saheed Osupa and Pasuma.
He was involved in real estate and land development, although some of his activities in the sector occasionally led to disputes with communities and other parties.
His death has continued to generate tributes from politicians, transport union leaders, entertainers, traders and residents of Mushin, who have mourned the loss of a prominent figure in Lagos grassroots life.
