The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged woman who allegedly threatened police officers with a knife during an altercation over her arrest for suspected cannabis sales in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area.
The woman was captured in a viral video seated inside a car, hurling insults and curses at the officers who allegedly arrested her over the suspected sale of cannabis, popularly known as Indian hemp.
She later stepped out of the vehicle, allegedly brandished a knife and moved towards a young woman believed to be one of the officers recording the incident.
Speaking in Yoruba, the woman questioned why police officers were repeatedly harassing her and others allegedly involved in cannabis sales.
“Why are you troubling us, are we the only ones selling Indian hemp? And you have continued to harass us repeatedly, it will never be well with you,” she said.
Confirming the arrest on Friday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the matter was under investigation.
“The suspect has been arrested and the matter is already under investigation,” Babaseyi said.
The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, also confirmed that the woman would be arraigned on Friday.
“I have contacted the CP over the viral video and I was told that the woman will be charged to court today,” Ogungbade said.
