Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo says his battle against insecurity, particularly cultism, is not new to him, recalling that he began “casting out demons” at the age of 17.
The governor made the remarks on Sunday while worshipping at The VOTAGE Church of the WINLOS Centre in Benin City.
Okpebholo said his experience from his teenage years had given him an early encounter with issues he now confronts as governor, particularly the challenge of cultism and insecurity in Edo.
“When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at the age of 17/18, I’ve also started casting out demons,” he said.
“So fighting insecurity, most especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It’s something that has been happening.”
The governor’s comments come as his administration intensifies its efforts to tackle kidnapping, cultism and other security challenges across the state.
Okpebholo also confirmed his attendance at the church service in a post on X, describing the experience as a “beautiful time” of thanksgiving, fellowship and prayer.
He said he joined worshippers in praying for the continued peace and protection of Edo State, as well as wisdom and strength for those entrusted with leadership.
“I believe that beyond our efforts, we must continue to seek God’s guidance and commit Edo State into His hands,” he added.
