On Friday, Dr Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor and founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, visited state hospitals to mark her 55th birthday and to urge political leaders and well-meaning individuals to care for vulnerable people.

“I encourage political leaders and well-meaning individuals to take time to bring joy to the vulnerable in society, no matter how small the effort,” she said, explaining that true leadership is rooted in service and compassion.

Her first stop was Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka.

From there she went on to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi and the General Hospital in Okpoko.

At each facility, Dr Soludo quietly settled the medical bills of 200 patients chosen for the birthday gesture.

Dr Soludo spent time walking through wards, speaking warmly with patients and offering prayers.

She made it clear that she does not celebrate with parties.

“Each year, I spend my birthday with the sick, the motherless, and the vulnerable. Bringing happiness to others is my greatest source of joy.

That is all I need to feel fulfilled,” she said.

Before leaving, she praised the healthcare workers for their dedication and commended the cleanliness and management of the hospitals.

“Making someone smile doesn’t cost much,” she added. “Sometimes all it takes is your presence. Even helping an elderly woman find a place to sleep is an act of love.
