The legal team representing Pastor Dr. Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, also known as Grace Nation Liberation City, has accused social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and a woman identified as Miss Chi, of cyber incitement, cyber bullying, harassment, stalking, and criminal defamation against their client.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing, the lawyers said the online allegations against Pastor Okafor were false, malicious, and deliberately aimed at damaging his reputation and ministry. They alleged that VeryDarkMan used his social media platforms to publish and amplify defamatory content, including an interview with a woman claiming to be the biological daughter of the cleric, without first seeking his response.
According to the counsel, the woman, who identified herself as Ms. Chi Okafor, has been presenting herself online as Pastor Okafor’s daughter and accusing him of abandoning her and neglecting paternal responsibilities. The lawyers described the claims as “entirely untrue, misleading and injurious,” insisting that there is no biological relationship between Pastor Okafor and the individuals making the claims.
The legal team provided background details, stating that during the early years of Pastor Okafor’s ministry, a woman had alleged she was pregnant for him, prompting him to accept responsibility and marry her. However, the relationship later deteriorated, particularly after Pastor Okafor was kidnapped and allegedly abandoned by the woman, who reportedly denied knowing him when contacted by his abductors.
They further claimed that during a subsequent dispute, the woman admitted the children from the relationship might not belong to Pastor Okafor, leading to a DNA test which reportedly showed that neither child was his biological offspring. The lawyers said the marriage ended following the DNA results, and the woman left with the children.
Despite the outcome of the test, counsel said Pastor Okafor continued to support the children’s education and welfare on humanitarian grounds, including their schooling abroad, stressing that such support should not be misconstrued as acknowledgment of paternity.
The lawyers warned that portraying the children as Pastor Okafor’s biological offspring or accusing him of abandonment amounts to libel and cyber bullying. They disclosed that a formal warning letter has already been issued to VeryDarkMan, demanding an immediate retraction of all defamatory publications, public apologies in two national newspapers, removal of the disputed content, and cessation of any claims suggesting a familial relationship.
They also challenged the claimant to submit to a fresh DNA test at an agreed medical facility if the earlier test results could not be produced.
The legal team stated that failure to comply with these demands would leave their client with no option but to pursue legal action to protect his reputation and integrity, adding that the briefing was issued to set the record straight and curb the spread of falsehoods.
