The Peoples Democratic Party said that it was deeply saddened by the sudden death of Dr. Leon Usigbe, who had served as the Abuja Bureau Chief and Villa/PDP Correspondent for the Nigerian Tribune.
They said that they had learned the news in Abuja on Sunday and that Usigbe had built his career in the city, focusing on reporting democracy, good governance, and accountability.
They added that his unexpected death had left colleagues and friends in shock.
They noted that, in a statement signed by their National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, they had praised Dr. Usigbe as a brave, calm, and highly skilled journalist who always spoke truth to power and had worked tirelessly to deepen Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
They said that they had sent their heartfelt condolences to his widow, children, staff at the Nigerian Tribune, members of the PDP Press Corps, and the Nigerian Union of Journalists, and that they had prayed that God would give his family and loved ones comfort and strength and grant Dr. Usigbe eternal rest.
