The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court sitting in Awka over separate allegations involving child defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, assault and unlawful procurement of abortion involving minors.
The suspects were arraigned on September 23, 2026, following investigations into the respective cases.
The suspects include Chinedu Chiekwu of Umuoli Village, who was arraigned over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.
Sunday Anele was also arraigned over an allegation of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, which allegedly resulted in pregnancy.
Another suspect, Ugochukwu Okereke, was arraigned for allegedly luring a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush and sexually assaulting her.
Similarly, Ebuka Nwachukwu was arraigned over an allegation that he lured a six-year-old girl into his room at Okpoko, where he allegedly sexually abused her.
The fifth suspect, Ogechi Ofoma, a resident of Awada, Obosi, was arraigned over an allegation of assaulting her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, with a heated kitchen knife, allegedly inflicting multiple injuries on the child.
The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, was arraigned over an allegation relating to the unlawful procurement of an abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, the command also provided an update on a widely circulated video involving a 36-year-old woman allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.
The command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police had concluded their investigation and forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary legal action.
Ikenga added that the woman remains in police custody pending further proceedings.
