The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl in Abuja.
The suspect was arrested on October 2, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
According to a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers noticed a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle, registration number KMC567LQ, parked at the location with its windows wound up.
The officers reportedly became suspicious after observing that the vehicle was shaking. They approached the vehicle and, upon opening it, allegedly found Halilu sexually assaulting the minor.
The police said the suspect was immediately arrested while the girl was rescued.
Preliminary investigation, according to the Command, revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions in the same vehicle and threatened to harm her if she disclosed the abuse.
The police said medical examination subsequently revealed that the girl was about three months pregnant.
The victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody.
The Command said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and whereabouts of their children and wards.
