The Zone 2 command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 26-year-old suspect allegedly responsible for the production and nationwide distribution of adulterated engine oil.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos. He said the arrest followed a written petition submitted to the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, , accusing the suspect of illegally adulterating engine oil products.
According to Afolayan, the petition was immediately forwarded to the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit for discreet investigation. Acting on intelligence, detectives apprehended the suspect, who allegedly confessed to orchestrating the production and importation of adulterated engine oil from China before distributing the products across several states.
He said coordinated raids led to the recovery of 280 gallons of adulterated engine oil from locations in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos and Ogun states.
Afolayan added that the tested the seized products and confirmed that they failed to meet Nigerian Industrial Standards.
He said Fayoade reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting consumers, safeguarding legitimate businesses and ensuring that those involved in economic crimes are brought to justice.
