The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that Ajebo community near Agbowa in the Ikorodu area was invaded by an armed group that destroyed properties and injured residents.
In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the report as mischievous, untrue, and misleading.
She clarified that the unrest stemmed from a land dispute between two families within the community. The disagreement escalated, prompting the rapid deployment of joint police intervention teams, including tactical squads, Police Mobile Force anti-riot units, officers from Agbowa Division, Area N Command, and other special units.
According to Adebisi, normalcy was quickly restored, allowing residents to go about their daily activities without further disruption.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate investigation, and preliminary findings confirmed that the disturbance had no links to gunmen, contrary to circulating claims.
Adebisi also stated that no lives were lost, no injuries were recorded, and no firearms were discharged, refuting the allegations in the earlier report.
Peace has since been fully restored, and leaders of the two feuding families have been invited to the Commissioner’s office for further investigation. They were cautioned to maintain peace, with a warning that any renewed unrest would attract the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and called on journalists to report responsibly, assuring residents of the police command’s commitment to maintaining peace and public order across the state.
