The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, arresting three students aged 12, 18 and 18 in connection with a planned cult-related activity tagged “Kito Day”.
The suspects were arrested following intelligence received by the police on October 22, 2026, about an alleged planned cult-related gathering involving students from different secondary schools in the area.
Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Owode-Yewa, swiftly mobilised a team of detectives in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to the suspected location.
The operation resulted in the arrest of the three students and the recovery of several items suspected to be connected with the planned activity.
Items recovered included an English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag.
The police said the timely intervention helped foil the suspected initiation before the planned activity could proceed.
The suspects are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The development underscores growing concerns about the involvement of young people, including secondary school students, in suspected cult-related activities.
However, the police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the planned gathering and the alleged roles of the arrested students.
