The Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Lagos Police command has confirmed that officers seen in a viral video harassing young men have been identified and will face disciplinary action.
The unit disclosed this in a statement on Saturday following widespread reactions to a video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), which showed some police officers allegedly subjecting young men to harassment during what appeared to be a search operation.
According to the CRU, appropriate sanctions will be taken against the officers involved.
“Dear members of the public, the policemen in the viral video have been identified and appropriate disciplinary actions await them accordingly,” the statement read.
The unit also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the police in its efforts to eliminate misconduct within the force.
“We seek your support and trust as we fight impunity to a standstill,” it added, using the hashtag #NoToImpunity.
The development comes amid growing public concern over incidents of police misconduct and abuse of power, with citizens increasingly using social media platforms to call attention to such cases.
The police reiterated their commitment to accountability and professionalism, assuring the public that actions inconsistent with established standards would not be tolerated.
