Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have launched an investigation following the interception of a white Mercedes-Benz SUV conveying five occupants, including popular Nigerian influencer Papaya Ex, whose real name is Abike Halima Raheem, during a routine stop-and-search operation in Ajah.

According to preliminary accounts, the vehicle, which had two female and three male occupants, was stopped by officers for routine checks. When questioned, the occupants were reportedly unable to provide satisfactory means of identification.

Police sources disclosed that Papaya Ex repeatedly stated, “I am Papaya X, even your bosses know me,” but allegedly failed to present valid identification or offer verifiable details to confirm her identity.

The officers subsequently requested that they proceed to Ajah Police Station for proper identification and documentation. An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) joined them inside the SUV, while other officers followed in a patrol vehicle.

However, shortly after departing the scene, the driver reportedly sped off in what authorities described as an attempt to evade the police. The vehicle was eventually intercepted through the swift intervention of personnel from the Langbasa Police Division at another checkpoint around Addo Roundabout.

The now-viral video circulating on social media was recorded after the SUV had been successfully stopped at the second checkpoint.

The incident comes days after Papaya Ex, also known as Abike Halima Raheem, alleged on Instagram that a police officer in Ajah, Lagos, physically assaulted her with a firearm and grabbed her during an encounter.

Police authorities confirmed that the matter is under investigation and assured that further updates would be communicated as necessary.
