River Valley estate murder takes new turn as prime suspect found dead

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Mr. Ayoola Ayanwale, the principal suspect in the murder of Ganiyat, his wife at River Valley Estate, Ojodu Berger.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Ayanwale was discovered gasping for breath in an open field in the Sotubo area of the state and was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

According to DSP Babaseyi, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may have taken his own life on January 9, 2026. He noted that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

 

Police said items recovered at the scene included a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card, and an ATM card, all of which allegedly link the deceased to the River Valley Estate murder.

Meanwhile, the couple’s three children have been placed under the care of relatives, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
