Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on all eligible voters in the state to come out in large numbers to participate in the local government elections scheduled for Saturday.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Governor described the election as a critical opportunity for Lagosians to shape leadership at the grassroots level, emphasizing the pivotal role of local councils in delivering essential services and fostering development within communities.
“The local government is the closest tier of government to the people,” Sanwo-Olu said, “and this election allows citizens to elect Chairmen and Councillors who will represent their interests and drive progress in their communities.”
Urging peaceful and active participation, the Governor reminded residents that voting is not only a constitutional right but also a civic responsibility and a meaningful expression of their voice in governance.
To ensure a secure and credible exercise, Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that security agencies have been strategically deployed across all polling units and communities. Law enforcement personnel, he assured, will be on ground to protect voters, electoral officials, and voting materials.
He added that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has assured him of its readiness to conduct free and fair polls.
The Governor also appealed to political stakeholders, candidates, and party agents to maintain decorum and uphold principles of fairness, peace, and respect for the rule of law throughout the election.
He issued a special appeal to the youth to shun violence and act as ambassadors of peace and democratic responsibility.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparent and participatory governance, Sanwo-Olu stated: “Lagos will continue to set the pace in democratic development. Let us show the world once again that our state stands for peace, progress, and participatory governance.”
The elections will be held across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
