Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to track down and prosecute those responsible for the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
The governor condemned the incident as “barbaric and criminal,” warning that Lagos State would not tolerate acts of vandalism targeting critical public infrastructure.
Sanwo-Olu said officials of the Lagos State Office of Infrastructure had inspected the affected bridge and confirmed that its structural integrity remained intact.
He, however, directed that remedial work be carried out immediately to protect the bridge columns and prevent further damage.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” the governor said.
He added that anyone found culpable in the incident would face the full weight of the law.
“Anyone who is found to be culpable in this horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident will surely face the law,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor described attacks on public infrastructure as unacceptable, stressing that the state would continue to protect facilities critical to the safety and wellbeing of residents.
“Lagos has no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against our critical infrastructure and other facilities,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to the appropriate authorities.
