Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol in Oyo State have intercepted a commercial passenger vehicle and recovered items suspected to be human remains along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The discovery occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation near Guru Maharaji Village. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan by the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso.
According to the police, the vehicle was travelling from Lagos to Osogbo when it was stopped for inspection. During the search, officers found a red cloth containing bones and other items believed to be parts of a human body, concealed among passengers’ luggage.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was immediately arrested for questioning.
Osifeso said investigations have commenced to ascertain the origin of the recovered items, how they were transported, and their intended destination or purpose. He noted that the probe has been extended beyond Oyo State to track down all individuals possibly linked to the incident.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” he stated.
The Oyo State Police Command assured the public that the case is being handled with diligence and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice. The police also urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing investigations.
