Teach girls self-respect, emotional intelligence early — says ex-Miss Nigeria

Former Miss Nigeria, Chioma Obiadi, has urged parents and guardians to teach girls self-respect and emotional intelligence from an early age.

She advised during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

Obiadi said girls who understand their worth and boundaries grow into adults with integrity and make meaningful contributions to society.

She noted that many girls face pressure from social expectations, peer influence, and online narratives that promote sacrifice as proof of love.

Obiadi explained that such conditions expose girls to manipulation and unhealthy relationship dynamics.

She stressed that love must never come at the cost of safety, dignity, or peace of mind.

Obiadi urged families to guide girls through early education, open communication, and support from trusted adults.

She added that girls must feel confident to speak up, set limits, and reject any form of pressure or control in relationships.
