Tijani Fatai has officially assumed duty as the 42nd Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, taking over the leadership of the state command.
He succeeds Olohundare Jimoh, who served as the 41st Commissioner of Police from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026.
Fatai, a native of Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994, and has since held several strategic positions across the country.
Prior to his appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port in Port Harcourt. His previous roles also include Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, as well as postings in the Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
He has also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Department of Finance and Administration at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, and held various operational positions, including Area Commander in Ilaro, Ogun State; Maiduguri Metro, Borno State; and Area C, Surulere, Lagos.
Fatai’s experience further spans leadership roles as Squadron Commander in Benin and Akure, Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lagos, and Divisional Police Officer in Ogere, Ijanikin, and Alakara.
A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the new commissioner is regarded as a seasoned officer with extensive operational and administrative experience.
In his remarks, Fatai assured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to strengthening security across Lagos. He pledged to build on existing reforms, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and promote community policing.
He also emphasised the need for professionalism, discipline, and improved service delivery within the command, while reaffirming the police’s mandate to protect lives and property.
The Lagos State Police Command called on members of the public to support the new leadership in its efforts to maintain law and order across the state.
