President Bola Tinubu has approved the composition of Nigeria’s delegation to the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group on Security, a new platform designed to deepen bilateral cooperation and tackle Nigeria’s pressing security challenges.
The Joint Working Group was established following a recent high-level engagement in Washington, DC, led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who will chair the Nigerian side of the committee. He will be supported by a multi-agency team of senior government officials.
The delegation includes:
- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar
- Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar
- Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
- Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Bernard M. Doro
- Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede
- Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed
- Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun
Additionally, Ms. Idayat Hassan of the Office of the National Security Adviser and Mr. Paul Alabi of the Nigerian Embassy in the United States will serve as the Group’s secretariat.
President Tinubu directed the members to work closely with their American counterparts to ensure the effective and timely execution of all agreed initiatives across security-related sectors.
