President Bola Tinubu is back in Nigeria following his diplomatic visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday morning, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, announced the president’s arrival at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. He was received by top government officials, including Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu; Minister of Defence Bello Matawalle; National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; APC chieftain Ibrahim Masari; and former Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko.
The president’s two-nation tour, which began in June, was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties across the Caribbean and South America.
During his state visit to Saint Lucia, Tinubu addressed a special joint session of the country’s parliament and was honoured with the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL)—the island nation’s highest national award.
He proceeded to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 17th BRICS Summit, where Nigeria participated as a partner country—a status Onanuga described as ranking above that of a guest nation. He said this designation underscores Nigeria’s growing strategic influence within the emerging economic bloc.
At the summit, President Tinubu called for greater equity and inclusion for low-income and developing nations in the global economic and governance systems.
