The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) stated that Nigerian elites must collaborate to address the country’s major development challenges.

The workshop was held in Abuja.

The event took place on a Thursday.

He explained that the workshop was organized because Nigeria was facing serious challenges, and public protests in the past had shown that people were frustrated with the lack of progress.

He added that divisions among elites, along ethnic, religious, or economic lines, were making it hard to agree on national priorities.

The Director-General, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, made the call, while Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the NILDS Elite Consensus Development Committee, also spoke about the survey findings.

They said the workshop was part of a national research project, and that NILDS would organise a national summit to bring more elites together.

It was also reported that the survey recommended reforms, such as ending immunity for top officials, reducing the cost of governance, promoting equal rights for all citizens, and involving traditional rulers in security efforts.
