Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council, saying she is not involved in any political campaign council.
Abraham was listed as a member of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate of the Lagos APC campaign council unveiled on Thursday ahead of the 2027 elections.
Her name appeared alongside those of actors including Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun and Bukky Wright, as well as Fuji musicians Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.
However, Abraham took to her Instagram Story to reject the reported appointment.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.
Abraham’s decision comes after she faced significant backlash on social media following her public support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
During a Twitter Space in March 2023, the actress said supporters of Peter Obi had petitioned Netflix over her political stance and targeted brands associated with her.
She also alleged that she and members of her family had been subjected to insults and online attacks over her support for Tinubu.
The controversy resurfaced in 2024 after Abraham took legal action over what she described as cyberbullying and defamatory claims made against her online.
Meanwhile, the Lagos APC campaign council has named Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, with Kosoko as Co-Director and Badmus as Deputy Director.
Despite Abraham’s public rejection of the appointment, her name remains on the published list of members of the 33-person directorate.
