Local and foreign vendors at the Abuja International Trade Fair, along with Chief Emeka Obegolu, President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), speak on their experiences at the ongoing exhibition.
They report low patronage but remain optimistic about improved sales as the fair progresses.
A Ghanaian trader, Mrs Veronica Aboagye, says, “I am calling on Nigerians to patronise me so that my products and services are sold. I do not want to go back with my products.”
The vendors explain that they come not only to sell products but also to build networks and attract investors.
Nigerian businessman Joseph Asogwa says, “I aim to establish contacts with reliable and strong business people that will enhance my business, and also engage new customers.”
Obegolu adds that ACCI introduces the BABA FEST initiative to promote African trade, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
The fair takes place at the Abuja International Trade Fair complex, where it opens on Sept. 25 and runs until Oct. 6.
Vendors share their views with reporters on Tuesday as activities continue.
They appeal to Nigerians for more patronage, show confidence in the market, and use the fair to connect with business partners.
A Chinese participant, Mr Zhang Wei, says, “I am not discouraged in any way because I trust Nigerians, Nigerians are good business people and they will surely turn out.”
Obegolu stresses that ACCI aligns the exhibition with the global sustainable development goals.
