A 28-year-old woman, identified as Juliet, has died following a brutal mob attack in the Ajah area of Lagos after a dispute reportedly turned violent on Monday.
Witnesses said the confrontation began when Juliet damaged the windshield of a man’s car during an argument. The man allegedly left the scene and later returned with several accomplices, who forcefully took her to an uncompleted building where she was severely beaten.
Residents who found Juliet unconscious attempted to rush her to a hospital, but she was pronounced dead before medical help arrived.
A community member described the incident as a tragic case of jungle justice. “Even if she was wrong, they had no right to take the law into their hands. They should have reported to the police,” the witness said.
A local security source added that Juliet might have been under the influence of alcohol during the altercation, which could have contributed to the escalation.
Police officers later arrived at the scene and arrested three suspects, including the wife of the man whose car was damaged. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further inquiry.
Confirming the development, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the command is investigating the matter and assured that justice will be served.
The incident adds to a troubling rise in mob-related killings across the state. In January, a 23-year-old man in Alimosho was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death, while in June, a young Nigerian musician in Ghana reportedly died after being assaulted during a business dispute.
