Troops of Operation MESA have arrested a man allegedly in possession of suspected explosives in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The arrest was carried out around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday after security operatives received intelligence about a civilian reportedly moving around the Agric area with suspicious items during a public event.
Acting promptly, the troops deployed to the location, secured the environment, and apprehended the suspect without any disruption.
Security sources said the individual was found with 36 items believed to be hand grenades.
The suspect, identified as an indigene of Osun State but resident in Ikorodu, is currently in custody as authorities continue investigations to ascertain the origin and intended use of the explosives.
Following the operation, event organisers and attendees were briefed by security personnel and urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
The suspect and the recovered items have since been handed over to military authorities for further investigation.
