The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi has reaffirmed the league’s strict stance on discipline after the Nigeria Women Football League suspended two players for post-match violence.
The league sanctioned Teslimot Balogun of Pacesetter Queens and Busari Suliyat of Ekiti Queens following an incident that occurred after a Premiership fixture at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.
Ekiti Queens secured a 2–0 victory in the Matchday 15 encounter before tensions escalated at the final whistle.
Both players engaged in a physical altercation on the pitch, which disrupted order and drew official intervention.
Match officials submitted reports that detailed violent conduct and unsporting behaviour from the two players.
The NWFL reviewed the referee’s report, the match commissioner’s findings, and video evidence before issuing its ruling.
The league concluded that the conduct violated regulations and “brought the game to disrepute.”
The NWFL then imposed a two-match suspension on each player, effective from Matchday 16.
A statement credited to media director Sam Ahmadu read, “According to reports from match officials, the incident occurred immediately after the final whistle, with both players engaging in conduct deemed violent and unsporting.”
Shabi warned that the league will continue to enforce strict punishment, saying, “Any act of violence has no place in our league and will be met with firm disciplinary action to protect the integrity of the game and the safety of all participants.”
